In early September 2026, Grand River Friendship Society (GRFS) organized a full-day outdoor gathering for university students, offering a refreshing opportunity to enjoy the final days of summer while preparing for the beginning of a new academic year.
Held in a beautiful, spacious garden away from the city, the event was designed to help students recharge, build friendships, and begin the semester with renewed energy and motivation. It also provided a welcoming environment for newly arrived students and those beginning their university journey to meet peers and develop meaningful connections.
Throughout the day, participants enjoyed a variety of recreational activities, including swimming, hiking, and American football. These activities created opportunities for students to spend time together, share experiences, and enjoy the outdoors in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
A highlight of the gathering was a delicious BBQ meal featuring traditional Turkish döner, bringing everyone together around good food and conversation.
Beyond recreation, the event reflected GRFS’s commitment to supporting young people through opportunities for social engagement, friendship, and personal development. Creating spaces where students feel welcomed and connected is an important part of helping them navigate new experiences and transitions.
As summer came to a close, the gathering offered a memorable way to celebrate friendships, welcome new faces, and look ahead to the academic year with enthusiasm and a sense of belonging.
New friendships, shared experiences, and a fresh start to the semester!
