Weekend School is a special program by the Grand River Friendship Society that helps children grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a fun and supportive space.
Held on Saturdays throughout the school year, and continuing as Summer School in the summer, this free program brings together over 250 children each year for four hours of learning, play, and connection.
We offer
• Academic support in core subjects
• Artistic, cultural, and sports activities
• Language development and confidence-building
• Friendship, mentorship, and leadership opportunities
Participation is entirely voluntary and open to children from all backgrounds. Families enroll their children based on interest and availability, with no fees or attendance requirements.
Our team of instructors, mentors, and facilitators are all volunteers, often university students or caring community members who are passionate about supporting children’s well-being and success.
Weekend School is more than a program. It is a place where newcomers feel welcomed, young leaders are empowered, and lifelong friendships begin. Through this initiative, we nurture a sense of community, inclusion, and hope for the future.
