On Friday evening, January 30, as Grand River Friendship Society, we had the pleasure of hosting a collage workshop in collaboration with the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre, as part of the Indigenous & Newcomers Gathering organized by Indigenous Creatives United, specially organized for the women in our community.
The workshop was incredibly meaningful and productive. Our friends truly enjoyed the process, and the atmosphere was filled with joy, reflection, and connection. ????
Through collage-making, participants were invited to bring a moment from their past or present onto paper, give it meaning, and then share their stories with everyone in the room. This experience was deeply relaxing and emotionally uplifting.
Some friends shared the longing they carry from their past, while others expressed their hopes, dreams, and plans for the future through their collages. Listening to these stories and witnessing such openness created a safe, warm, and beautiful space for all of us.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Flora from Indigenous Creatives United and Ana Lagos, Community Engagement Coordinator at the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre, for facilitating and supporting this wonderful workshop and for creating such a thoughtful and caring environment. Spending the evening together meant a lot to us.
We ended the night with beautiful wishes, shared smiles, and a big family photo — a perfect way to close a special evening.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we sincerely hope this meaningful collaboration will continue.
