On August 22, our community gathered for SELAM, a true-story–inspired film about young teachers who leave home to serve in schools across Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Senegal. Shot across three continents, the film highlights courage, friendship, and the power of education to build peace.

Families and friends met in the GRFS backyard for a cozy summer lawn chairs out, free popcorn, tea, and coffee in hand. After the film, conversations flowed about service, teaching, and how small acts can change lives.

As the credits rolled, we were reminded that love is something we do—showing up, serving others, and learning together. At GRFS, Love is a Verb—and nights like this help us live it.

Backyard Movie Night!

On Friday, our community members gathered to watch Pocket Hercules: Naim Süleymanoğlu — the incredible story of a Turkish Olympic champion whose strength inspired the world.

Guests arrived with blankets and chairs in hand, found their spots in the GRFS backyard, and settled in for a heartfelt evening. Laughter, awe, and pride filled the air as the film brought Naim’s journey to life. Free popcorn, tea, and coffee made the night even cozier, reminding us how the simplest comforts bring people closer together.

Because at GRFS, we believe that Love is a Verb — it lives in every smile shared, every chair offered, and every story told together.

For Leon, hope is not an abstract idea—it’s rooted in the real-life stories of resilience, love, and human connection. In his latest reflection, he introduces us to a remarkable refugee family that has quietly and powerfully impacted their community. Despite facing language barriers, cultural shifts, and the trauma of displacement, they have embraced their new life with grace, generosity, and joy.

This family doesn’t just live in their new home—they actively build it every day. Through kindness, through service, and through the way they raise their children to love and give, they show us what true strength looks like. They remind us that being hopeful isn’t about ignoring hardship. It’s about choosing to believe in goodness even when life is hard.

Leon’s story is more than just a tribute—it’s a call to recognize the everyday heroes among us. It’s an invitation to engage with one another with empathy and purpose.

As Leon beautifully reminds us, love is a verb—something we do, something we live out through action, compassion, and commitment to one another.
