On Wednesday, December 10, from 7:00–8:00 p.m., our youth members will be visiting The Westhill Retirement Residence for a special hour of creativity and connection with senior friends.

In a busy world, this evening will create a gentle pause—space for young people and older adults to meet, talk, laugh, and make something beautiful together. It’s a chance to honour the wisdom of our seniors, uplift their spirits, and show our youth the joy of giving their time and attention.

Our high school youth met up with their mentor at 24Billiards for an evening of fun, focus, and friendship around the pool table. It was a chance to step away from homework and routines, relax together, and learn something new in a positive, supportive space.

Throughout the night, everyone took turns at the table—practising their shots, cheering one another on, and laughing at the “almost!” moments. Our mentor shared tips and encouragement, helping students build confidence, patience, and good sportsmanship with every game.

Over the weekend, we had a wonderful time with our Grade 9 and Grade 10 students celebrating Friendsgiving together. The evening began with reflections on gratitude and friendship. Throughout the night, we enjoyed a Bingo icebreaker, unlimited food and desserts, and fun activities.

Each table had the question “What are you thankful for?” to spark conversations, and there was a wall where students could draw their friends. We ended the night by giving thank-you letters to each of our guests for their participation in the event.

Yesterday, our young community members came together to watch the Turkish National Team take on Spain. It was a tough loss, but the night reminded us why gatherings like this matter: we show pride in our roots, practice sportsmanship, and turn disappointment into encouragement—together.

Even when the score isn’t in our favor, love shows up: showing respect for the game, lifting each other’s spirits, and choosing unity over frustration. That’s love in action—Love is a Verb.

Our Grade 8 students recently took part in a heartwarming visit to Lanark Village Retirement Home — a day devoted to connection, compassion, and creativity. These kinds of moments remind us just how much we all have to offer one another, no matter our age.

Together with the residents, our students painted side-by-side, crafted lovely bracelets, and brightened the space with fresh flowers and heartfelt smiles. The simple acts of sharing time and creating together led to unforgettable memories and meaningful conversations.

Love isn’t just something we feel — it’s something we do. At GRFS, we believe that Love is a Verb, and this visit was a beautiful example of how kindness can bloom across generations.

As the school year wrapped up, GRFS youth laced up their cleats and launched into summer with an unforgettable Soccer Festival! More than just a game, this event brought students from Grades 5 to 8 together to play, connect, and celebrate teamwork.

Hosted at Rim Park and led by dedicated mentors, the three-hour tournament was packed with energy, excitement, and moments of friendly competition. Students played with heart, respect, and summer joy — showing that sports can build more than just skills; they build friendships.

When we cheer each other on and show up with kindness, it’s more than a game — it’s love in action. At GRFS, we believe that Love is a Verb — and it shows up on and off the field.

On Friday, our Grade 9 students enjoyed an exciting and interactive outing to Activate Cambridge—a high-energy experience space filled with innovative, tech-driven games. This was more than just a field trip; it was a chance for our students to challenge themselves, work together, and build stronger connections through play.

Ten of our Grade 9 students took part in this dynamic experience, where they were divided into three teams and spent 75 minutes competing in a variety of games—from a laser maze and basketball challenges to colour grid puzzles and more. The energy was high, the teamwork was strong, and the laughter was non-stop. At the end of the event, some students proudly exchanged their points for fun rewards like water bottles and keychains.

This event reminded us that Love is a Verb when we invest time in uplifting one another, strengthening friendships, and celebrating every step of growth—especially when it’s this fun!

Over a 3-day weekend, high school boys in Grades 10–12 came together for our Spring Youth Camp — a program packed with reflection, teamwork, and unforgettable moments by the lake.

This wasn’t just a getaway — it was a meaningful journey where young minds explored not only the outdoors, but also the values of responsibility, friendship, and character.

Highlights from the Camp:
• Campfire chats under the stars (with marshmallows, of course!)
• Friendly football and volleyball matches in the fresh spring air
• Strategic chess showdowns and reading circles with thought-provoking topics
• Group reflections on life, ethics, and identity
• Daily seminars and deep conversations in a cozy lakeside cabin
• Shared responsibilities like meal prep to build team spirit
• A magical sunset over Lake Huron — nature’s perfect finale

We wrapped up with full hearts, new bonds, and stronger values. With 21 amazing participants and a team of dedicated mentors, this camp reminded us: growth is a group journey.

Because at GRFS, Love is a verb.
